Medical Condition A Contributing Factor In Chicagoland Bus Crash

A school bus driver lost control of the bus she was driving in Niles, Illinois and crashed according to an article in the Chicago Tribune. The bus driver was 77 years old. The driver, Elaine C. Delaney, was suffering from a unnamed medical condition at the time she lost control of the bus along Oakton Street on the border of Niles and Park Ridge with the bus veering into oncoming traffic. There were no children on the bus at the time but would have had 40 to 50 children on board 30 minutes later when it reached East Maine District 63 school.

Due to the unnamed medical condition of the bus driver, Delaney, the bus became a runaway down Oakton street, striking seven vehicles along the way along a path of destruction 1.3 miles before it crashed head -on with a taxi and came to a stop. There were numerous injuries caused by the crashes but none of the injuries were life threatening.
